Everyone Has A Story To Tell

This work visualises how we could challenge discrimination and alienation of marginalised groups within community activities. Using horse riding as a case study social activity, I have used coloured ribbons as a language, allowing everyone to communicate their position equally, giving agency to others. The model addresses equality and inclusivity by creating a format for other more important elements to be discussed.

In their paper ‘Spark Innovation through Empathic Design’, Leonard and Rayport discuss why standard inquiry techniques rarely lead to genuinely novel concepts1, and so radical modes of research and design need to be employed to spark radical and sustainable change. Where current design solutions are not working, we can use these concepts to ‘confront others with the challenges we face here and now, thereby disrupting the status quo’, and create design solutions to ‘inspire and persuade people to adopt new practices’, however, to do this we need to ‘provide meaning, agency and direction.4’
