A Tool for Sympoietic Thinking

How do we learn to “make-with” other beings, forms and forces we are entangled with but speak a different language to?

There is a growing urgent need to recognise the interconnection and entanglement of life on Earth.

Many of the cultures on Earth recognise these entanglements, in deep knowledges learned across many generations, but some cultures that are grounded in neoliberal capitalism have developed worldviews based on ideologies that separate humans from the rest of nature.

How do we learn to “make-with” other beings, forms and forces we are entangled with but speak a different language to?

The sympoietic Thinking Tool is influenced by Indigenous knowledges, Buddhist philosophy, Ecofeminism and Western Science. Anyone is welcome to use the tool, but I acknowledge that it might not be relevant to all people. I have designed it for use in the UK or other cultures with dualistic human-nature ontologies. It is intended to encourage different ways of thinking and can be best used as part of a conversation rather than as a tool to provide a solution to a problem.
